South Bend, Ind. (Jan. 6, 2016) — A rapidly increasing demand for high quality, precision-ground spur and helical gears in North America has led Schafer Gear Works to increase its manufacturing capacity with five new machines at its plant in South Bend, Ind. “We are continually upgrading our technology for tighter quality control and faster product delivery,” said David Alley, Schafer Industries Sales and Marketing Manager. “Our continuous equipment improvement ensures that we meet the rigid ISO 9001:2008 and AGMA 13 standards our customers expect.”

South Bend, Ind. (April 6, 2015) — North America’s rapidly increasing demand for high quality, precision-ground gears compelled Schafer Gear Works to recently add a ninth gear grinder to its fleet. The newest grinder was installed at its medium-diameter gear plant in South Bend, Ind., bringing its total to six grinders and augmenting three others at its large-diameter gear plant in Rockford, Ill. The newest gear grinder conducts faster, more flexible hard-finish grinding on spur and helical gears (up to 160 mm). Its patented anti-flank twisting capability Helps Schafer produce produce its signature quieter gears.

South Bend, Ind. (May 29, 2013) — Charles B. Tate has joined Schafer Industries as manager of the company’s Driveline Division.

The Driveline Division, whose assets were acquired last year from Dana Holding Corporation, has two production facilities in Ohio. The 120,000-square-foot assembly plant in Fredericktown produces axles for leisure, all-terrain and utility vehicles; transmissions and transaxles for ATVs; and related off-highway brake components and assemblies. The 30,000-square-foot facility in Blacklick produces aluminum gear housings, ductile iron differential cases and ductile iron brake components.

SOUTH BEND, IND. — To meet Schafer Gear Works’ growing demand for high-precision commercial aviation shafts and gears, the company recently moved its Fort Wayne, Ind., operations to its larger production facility in South Bend, Ind. The transition was seamless and the plant now produces precision-critical shafts and small-diameter gears with tolerances to 0.0004” and microfinishes to 16 RMS.
